Passage Course
This is a progression from Intermediate course. In this course we assume that you already know the basics of navigating (course setting and plotting), and can plan a passage travelling less known channels as directed by the instructor. Everyone will be required to plot courses and log entries as well as the general sailing and ensuring the performance of the yacht.
This is an ideal course for those who have completed a class room Coastal Navigation course and who desire to put those principles in practice under the helpful guidance of a qualified instructor.
This course (in conjunction with the Beginners and Intermediate courses) can be used in order to gain the Competent Crew certificate.

- Correct radio procedure covering VHF systems
- Understanding the rip (Port Phillip Heads)
- Handling tidal flows
- Docking and manoeuvring
- Understanding and interpreting weather forecasts
- Dinghy handling
- General duties
- Manners and customs
What do I bring?
Wear clothes suitable for the day and rubber soled shoes, preferably with a white or light coloured sole. A cap, sunglasses, bottle of water and sun screen are also a good idea. We provide you with wet weather gear (with the exception of boots) if required. You will need a change of clothes, toilet kit, sleeping bag and any special medicine you may require packed in a flexible soft bag.
How long is the course?
Two full days (overnight) starting at 9:00am and returning the next day at 4:30pm approx.
When are the courses held?
Please check dates section for more details. Weekdays can be arranged by appointment but a minimum of 3 students required.
How about meals?
Most meals are provided (except dinner at pub or restaurant). If you have special dietary needs, please be sure to indicate this in advance when you register for the course.
How much does it cost?

If all three courses completed (Beginners, Intermediate and Passage Course), an RYA logbook and Competent Crew certificate will presented upon successful completion.
