Racing – training and participating
For those who wish to experience the excitement of yacht racing you can join the School’s racing yachts. We organise training days/evenings, club and interclub racing and training towards participating in major class, inshore or offshore events.
We participate in
- Wednesday night racing at Royal Brighton Yacht Club (Oct - March)
- S80 State Titles (Jan)
- ORCV Winter Series (July – Oct)
- Hamilton Island Race week (Aug)
- Queenscliff – Hastings race (Oct, Nov)
- Melbourne – Launceston race (Dec)
- Kings Cup in Thailand (Dec)
Syllabus
- Starting procedures
- Basic racing rules
- Spinnaker sets, drops, gybes
- Sail setting for maximum performance
- Racing tactics
Each participant will rotate through helmsman, trimmer, and foredeck positions. You will learn all the skills required for a racing yacht, it would take years to gain this experience racing on private yachts.
Our racing instructors are highly experienced and have competed with the worlds best.
To join our racing, we will require a commitment from you to become regular crew member, especially for the State Titles, Winter Series and Offshore races.
