Introductory Course
An enjoyable and informative practical course designed for those with little or no experience to build a solid and correct foundation on which to develop their knowledge of sailing. This course can be used as part of the Competent Crew certificate, which then can be completed with two extra weekends and a night sail (Intermediate, Passage and night sail courses).
Syllabus:
Safety aspects of sailing, helming and the rules of the road
Sail handling, reefing, flaking and use of halyards, sheets and winches
Nautical terms, parts of the boat, sailing and rigging
Rope work
Sailing all points, going about, gybing, tacking, close reaching, running and reefing
Man overboard
Skippering, basic theory and sail trim
What do I bring?
Wear clothes suitable for the day and rubber soled shoes, preferably with a white or light coloured sole. A cap, sunglasses, bottle of water and sunscreen are also a good idea. We provide you with wet weather gear (with the exception of boots) if required.
How long is the course?
Two full days 9:30am – 4:30pm. Classes all conducted on the water. Plan to arrive about 9:20am.
When are the courses held?
Weekend courses are held nearly every weekend all year round. Please check dates section for more details. Weekdays can be arranged by appointment but a minimum of 2 students required.
