Safety & Sea Survival Certificate

Online Safety & Sea Survival Certificate (SSSC)

This course is essential for anyone taking to the seas, whether on a motor or sailing vessel. SSSC will teach you how to go about preparing to go to sea, emergency procedures, safety equipment, life-saving signals, handling heavy weather and choosing the most suitable life jacket or buoyancy aid. It also provides in-depth advice and information on safety and survival skills required at sea.

SSSC is required by 50% of yacht crew for offshore racing. As stated in the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2001-2004: “50% of the crew, including the skipper, shall have undertaken training and received a Certificate of Competence… in YA Safety and Sea Survival… which shall be valid for five (5) years”.

“From the evidence of the survivors of the yacht ‘WINSTON CHURCHILL’ and the tests conducted by the NSW Water Police… it is indisputable that trained crew have a greater likelihood of survival than untrained crew” Coroner Abernathy-Inquest Into the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
